Hitachi is a global technology company based in Tokyo, Japan, which was founded in 1910 as a workshop for initially repairing machinery used in mining. According to the founder's message, the company's goal was to "help society through the development of perfect, original technology and products". The name Hitachi is a combination of the words hi (meaning sun) and tachi (height). Milestones for the development of the corporation were the development of a 10,000 hp water turbine (in 1916) and the invention of the first large-scale DC locomotive made in Japan (in 1924). World War II turned out to be fatal, the consequences of which were nearly destroyed by Hitachi. In 1959, the American branch of the company was established and in 1982 the European branch of Hitachi began. Currently, the group consists of over 140 companies and is divided into 11 thematic and business segments.
