The history of the Zeppelin brand began in 1900 with the flight of the first airship constructed by Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. This event was a testimony to the enormous technological breakthrough on which the foundations of the corporation were built. The airships produced by the company were called "zeppelins" in honor of the founder, and during World War I they were used for military operations - they made numerous bombings, incl. for Antwerp, Warsaw, Paris and London. In 1950, the company Metallwerk Friedrichshafen GmbH was founded and this date is considered to be the beginning of the company Zeppelin GmbH. The legal seat is in Friedrichshafen, while the head office is in Garching near Munich in the south of Germany.
At present, the Zeppelin GmbH group operates in over 30 countries, has 190 branches and employs approximately 7,700 employees. There are 6 business units operating within it: EU construction machines (sale and service of construction machines and parts), CIS construction machines (rental and sale of construction and agricultural equipment), machine rental, energy systems, industrial installations and Z Lab, where new digital business models.
From the 1950s, Zeppelin began a close cooperation with Caterpillar, which was primarily aimed at selling and servicing parts and machines of the American manufacturer on the German market, and currently Zeppelin focuses primarily on these issues.
