Service of the Liebherr D924 T-E engine in the Liebherr LTM 1150-5.1 mobile crane – vicinity of Częstochowa
Recently, our WIBAKO service performed comprehensive maintenance on the Liebherr D924 T-E engine installed in the Liebherr LTM 1150-5.1 mobile crane. The machine operated in difficult conditions, on a construction site with high dust levels. The operator reported issues with excessive blue smoke and a loss of power. After initial diagnostics, it was determined that the cause of the problem was a clogged air filter, which led to an improper mixture composition and excessive oil consumption.
Initial diagnostics on-site
Our WIBAKO service team reached the machine in the vicinity of Częstochowa. During the first inspection, characteristic symptoms were noticed – blue smoke from the exhaust system and uneven engine operation under load. First, we checked the air filter because this was not the first case of this type.
The Liebherr D924 T-E engine operated in dusty conditions on a road construction site, where the air filtration system was not cleaned at appropriate intervals. Prolonged operation in such conditions led to the occurrence of negative pressure in the intake manifold. In this specific model, the crankcase ventilation is connected to the intake manifold.
Disassembly and cleaning of the intake system
After confirming the diagnosis, we proceeded to disassemble the air filter and the entire intake system, which was contaminated with oil.
Maintenance and recommendations after service
WIBAKO recommends regular cleaning and replacement of air filters in machines operating in dusty conditions. Everything depends on the working conditions. Therefore, we suggest daily checks of the air filters.
Summary
Daily checks of basic elements such as air filters, engine oil level, and coolant level will help avoid more serious failures, which we encourage our clients to do.
