Diagnosing a hydraulic system is no small matter
The hydraulic system of a modern construction machine is so complex and precise that accurately indicating the cause of a failure without using specialized tools becomes practically impossible.
Even typical symptoms do not always indicate damage to the suspected component, and the source of the problem may be something completely different. Therefore, it is best to entrust the diagnosis of the hydraulic system to an experienced service.
Most common symptoms of hydraulic system failure
Every, even inexperienced operator, must react and report a failure if they notice such symptoms:
- Arm dropping
- Lack of rotation in the excavator
- Slow driving
- Engine choking
- Hydraulic pump whining
Each of these faults significantly hinders or even makes work impossible, so a quick diagnosis of the problem and its removal is necessary. Experience shows that it is not worth guessing. Hydraulic systems of modern machines are already so complex that it is increasingly difficult to talk about obvious causes of failures.
Haste is not advisable
In the event of one of the mentioned failures, the suspicion usually falls on a damaged reducer, combustion engine, pump or hydraulic motor. Before the owner decides to commission a repair, it is worth consulting with an experienced service that has appropriate diagnostic tools.
Often it happens that a serious failure, e.g. lack of rotation in the excavator, is caused by a minor fault: a disconnected plug on the coil, a damaged coil or even a jammed brake. Of course, it can also be the other way around. It happens that the cause of the arm dropping is not damaged seals, but a failure of the hydraulic distributor.
It's worth trusting the specialists
Incorrect indication of the source of the problem generates unnecessary, usually very high costs, which can be avoided by performing a professional diagnosis of the hydraulic system. It should be entrusted to an experienced service, which not only knows the structure of the systems well, but also has diagrams and specifications of specific machines.
If a person who does not know what pressure should be in the system and where the measuring points are takes care of the diagnosis, determining the actual cause of the failure will be very difficult or even impossible. This will significantly extend the repair period and increase its cost.
