Each construction machine consists of many interconnected elements and only the efficient operation of all of them will ensure effective and safe work. Some components perform absolutely fundamental functions, such as the internal combustion engine and hydraulic pump.
However, the significance and role of other parts may seem insignificant until their failure occurs and only then do we realize the important role that such elements play.
Hydraulic Rotary Connectors
Such a component is a hydraulic rotary connector, commonly known as a rotary column, it is an element found in many construction machines such as rotary excavators or self-propelled cranes - in these machines, connection by hoses is impossible, as they would be torn apart and that's why a rotary column is used in them.
The column itself is located in the middle of the machine's axis, and its tasks include ensuring the smooth flow of oil from the machine's body (where the hydraulic pump, distributor and other important components are located) to the receivers located in the undercarriage (and back).
This is important because rotary columns can differ from each other in construction depending on the type and size of the machine. They usually consist of two parts: a large and small column, but there are also those that have an electric column in their structure.
The large part includes the following elements: body (attached to the undercarriage), bushing (connected to the body), hydraulic connections. Seals are a very important element of the construction.
The popular damages of this component include:
- leakage: there may be external leaks (which involves dismantling the entire column to remove these leaks by replacing the set of seals) and internal leaks from channel to channel, which limit the functionality of the machine (e.g. weaker one direction of travel),
- core damage
- housing crack.
If the column has failed, there are 2 options: regeneration or purchase of a new/used unit.
When deciding on regeneration or purchase of a regenerated part, it is worth trusting a company with a well-established position, which has a lot of experience in these types of services. Dismantling and later assembly of this element is a very time-consuming activity which obviously results in high costs.
Purchasing a new column is always a big cost so it is worth considering buying a regenerated column.
