A Caterpillar 3116 DIT engine, originating from a Caterpillar M318 wheeled excavator, was repaired in our workshop.
The engine repair included, among other things, the replacement of main bearings, connecting rod bearings and bushings, as well as pistons along with rings. New injectors were installed in the fuel system and a regenerated high-pressure pump. The engine cooling system received a regenerated water pump and a new thermostat. A new oil pump is now responsible for the correct oil pressure, while a new oil cooler takes care of its proper temperature. The engine block was regenerated, including the replacement of camshaft bearings - on this occasion, the camshaft and pushrod cups were replaced with new ones.
Due to the specific construction of the engine head, it was necessary to carry out its major repair in terms of replacing injector bushings, planning, leak testing, replacing valves and their guides, springs, pushers and valve seats.
In addition, the following were regenerated: crankshaft, connecting rods, turbocharger and starter.
Finally, the engine was assembled on a new set of seals, gaskets and filters.
After the repair, the engine was checked and preliminarily run-in on the engine dynamometer in our workshop.
