Recondition of engine Caterpillar 3116 DIT

Our workshop has overhauled the Caterpillar 3116 DIT engine that comes from the Caterpillar M318 wheel excavator.

The engine overhaul was started from the replacement of main bearings, conrod's bearings and bushings, pistons with rings. New injectors and a regenerated high pressure pump were installed in the fuel system. The engine cooling system received a renew water pump and a new thermostat. A new oil pump is now responsible for correct oil pressure, while a new oil cooler takes care of its correct temperature. The engine block was reconditioned including the camshaft bearing shells replacement - on this occasion the camshaft and tappets were replaced with new ones.

Due to the specific structure of the cylinder head, it was necessary to perform a major overhaul in terms of replacing the injector sleeves, planning, leak test, replacing valves with guides, springs, tappets and valve seats.

In addition, the following elements were regenerated: crankshaft, connecting rods, turbocharger and starter.

Finally, the engine was assembled with a new set of seals, gaskets and filters.

After engine assembly the unit was tested on our test bench for runing and proper work.
