# Overhaul of the Mercedes OM906LA Engine for the Liebherr LTM 1030/2 Crane

#### Verification and assessment of technical condition

A power unit **Mercedes OM906LA** from the crane **Liebherr LTM 1030/2** arrived at our company. The technical verification of the engine revealed numerous wear and damage, which necessitated a **major overhaul**.
Initially, a thorough inspection of the **engine block** was conducted – despite previous sleeving, concerning signs of water presence under the cylinder sleeves were noted. Further analysis detected **cracks in the block**, resulting in its **replacement with a new one**.

#### Processing and replacement of key components

**Crankshaft and camshaft**
The **crankshaft** underwent detailed measurements – both the crankpins and main journals required **grinding**. Due to significant wear on the lobes, the **camshaft was replaced**.

**Connecting rod-piston assembly**
As part of the overhaul, a **new set of connecting rods** was used, as well as **new main, connecting rod, and thrust bearings**. **Piston rings, pistons, pins**, and a set of **pushrod cups** were also replaced.

**Engine head**
The **head was fully regenerated** – machining, valve replacement, and valve guide replacement were performed. A leak test confirmed its proper condition for further operation.

#### Regeneration of accessories and fuel system

The overhaul also included **regeneration of the turbocharger, alternator, starter, and compressor**. Due to the overhaul of the unit, **regeneration of the fuel system** was also performed – **new injectors**, **lift pump**, and a **set of single fuel pumps** were used.
The **oil pump**, **serpentine belt**, **thermostat**, **breather membrane**, **set of injector seals**, and an operational set: **fuel filter, oil filter, cap, and fuel sedimenter cover** were also replaced.

#### Engine dynamometer test

After the completion of the overhaul work, the engine **underwent a test on a stationary dynamometer**. The test results confirmed the proper operation of the unit:

- minimum RPM: **670 rpm**
- maximum RPM: **1450 rpm**
- power: **168 HP at 1250 rpm**, with a momentary peak of **175 HP at 1200 rpm**
- maximum torque: **1090 Nm at 1100 rpm**

**The engine started without issues, without fluctuations, without blow-by, and without smoking – even under load.**

The overhaul was a complete success. The engine is ready for **reassembly in the vehicle** and operation in field conditions typical for the crane **Liebherr LTM 1030/2**.
